“Barking Up The Right Tree” – The Sun Newspaper
They were once a favourite children’s hideout but treehouses are now sprouting everywhere – and they are for adults, too.
Zoopla revealed that “treehouse” has been one of its most popular search terms this summer as potential buyers hunt for a dream home with an extra something.
Modern treehouses can come with LED lights, double glazing, hot tubs, drawbridges and internet. Paul Cameron of Treehouse Life, in Surrey has designed dwellings for Elton John and Gary Barlow.
Paul says: “Our treehouses start from £15,000. The recession meant that people are taking fewer holidays and moving less, so they want to invest in something to enjoy family time. Our orders doubled last year. There’s no age limit to the joy of a treehouse. We’ve built a pool table treehouse and a table tennis treehouse in Ibiza, as well as one with a hot tub.”
But should we branch out into treehouses?
Estate agent Jeremy Leaf, former RICS residential chairman says: “They can really add to the saleability of a family home as opposed to the value. People want more for their money these days and with a kangaroo generation of twenty-some-things staying at home with mum and dad, extra space is key.”
